Parents/Guardians,
The Monett community is invited to attend a public memorial service honoring Mr. Russ Moreland's life on Saturday, November 7, 2020 at 11 a.m. at the Burl Fowler Stadium/Monett football field.
In addition to the public memorial, Mr. Moreland’s family will hold a private service at a later date and cards may be sent to Buchanan Funeral Home in Monett. The family has established the Russ Moreland Memorial Fund to benefit future education needs. In lieu of flowers, donations to the fund may be made at http://cfozarks.org/moreland.
Mr. Moreland loved his job and always strived to ensure everyone's opinions were heard. In the most challenging times, he put students, staff, and the community first. He inspired us to be better, led with his heart, and made sure we knew how proud he was to work with us. He inspired students to follow their dreams and reach their maximum potential in life. He was always present, and now his absence is deeply felt.
Mr. Moreland was full of ideas to make school fun. He sang for us, made music videos, and introduced Moose into our life. We were eager to have a snow day because we knew we would hear a snow day jingle at 5:30 am, followed by a Moose social media post.
He has forever touched our hearts in our school district and our united community. We will remember him as a caring, humble, and loving leader.
As you talk with your children about loss, please continue reassuring them that a caring team is here to surround them. The following resources will provide information and guidance on grief.
- Telling Children the Truth about Difficult Deaths
- What Grief Looks Like in Children
- Does Your Child or Teen Need Help with Grief
- Identifying and Letting Go of Feelings
Counselors will continue to be on campus to offer support to students and staff in the upcoming days.
Respectfully,
Monett R-1 Schools
