Parents/Guardian,
On January 21, 2021, the Monett School District accepted the resignation of two board members, Dr. Darren Bass and Mr. Jack Williams.
Dr. Medlin, Superintendent of Monett Schools, said, "In my short tenure at Monett, both Darren and Jack have earned my utmost respect. Both men are heavily invested in this community, the school, and demonstrate a genuine love of young people. I hate the fact that both are forced to step away from the BOE. Fortunately for the district, both continue to be present and invested in the community and school. I have no doubt that the district will continue to enjoy their support and service."
BOE Member, Dr. Darren Bass, "My time as a Board of Education member has met its limit. I have served in the BOE for the last ten years. During this time, there have been countless hours of collaboration, decision making, and implementation for the best interest of students, staff, and the Monett community. I have moved out of the district and can no longer serve on the BOE. I am proud of all the accomplishments made over the years, including Proposition CARE's recent passing. It is an honor to have served the Monett School District and the Monett community. I am eager to see how Monett will continue to evolve."
BOE Member, Mr. Jack Williams, "I have recently sold my home within the city of Monett and relocated to a location that is just outside of the Monett R-1 School District. Unfortunately, this means I no longer meet the residency requirements that must be maintained to serve as a school board member. I have enjoyed my time on the Board, and I am thankful for the opportunity to serve the Monett R-1 School District. I will continue to look for opportunities to support the district in any capacity that I can."
Qualified residents residing in the Monett School District and desiring to serve on the Board for the remainder of the term through April 2022 are invited to apply. The Monett School District will allow residents two weeks to apply for the vacant positions starting on January 21, 2021. The BOE will review applications and make appointments in an open session Board Meeting through a formal motion that is seconded and confirmed with an affirmative vote by a majority of the BOE. Individuals who wish to be considered should contact Lonna Norman, Board Secretary, at the Monett School District office, 417-235-7422.
