Monett Parents and Community,
The Monett Early Childhood Center will begin scheduling appointments for preschool and kindergarten screenings on Wednesday, February 1st. A preschool and kindergarten screening aims to assess a child's developmental progress and identify potential areas of concern.
Screenings will take place in the cafeteria/commons area at the Monett Early Childhood Center (MECC). Parents will enter the building for the screening through the back door on 7th Street that leads into the cafeteria/commons area. We currently have three screening dates scheduled: Monday, February 20, Thursday, March 9, and Thursday, April 6, from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.
Three-year-olds are screened for specific developmental delays only. We do not have a general preschool program for this age group. However, three-year-olds may be eligible for early childhood special education services. Three-year-olds accepted into the early childhood special education program will not be included in the full-day Title program.
Age requirements for preschool and kindergarten:
Preschool: Must be age four before August 1
Kindergarten: Must be age five before August 1
The screening appointment is the first step and does not guarantee enrollment in the fall. You will be required to return in the summer to complete the enrollment process, including E-Registration through PowerSchool. We will follow up with a letter in June to inform you whether your student is accepted into the preschool program. All kindergarten students within the age requirements are admitted into kindergarten.
